SUMMARY:The London Lasses and Chris O’Malley - in concert
DESCRIPTION:Price: £12 / £10 conc.\nIMDL (Irish Music and Dance in London)\nThis internationally renowned band deliver a wealth of traditional songs and tunes from all over Ireland.\nInternationally renowned band\, The London Lasses deliver a wealth of traditional material from all over Ireland\, including songs in Irish and English\, plus the full gamut of Irish dance tunes\, from the venerably ancient to the newly composed. The London Lasses celebrated their tenth anniversary in 2010 with the release of their fourth album ‘By Night and By Day’ with Pete Quinn and in 2015 released their 5th album ‘The One I Loved the Best’ with Leeds pianist/ guitarist\, Chris O’Malley. \n‘One of the best bands on the scene today’ Irish Music Magazine \n‘The best female group in Irish music is The London Lasses. Easily. No debate. Incredible musicians and singers.’ Irish American News \nOver the past seventeen years the band have been delighted to bring their music to some of the world’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls\, including Cambridge Folk Festival\, the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam)\, Glastonbury\, Dublin City Hall\, Philadelphia Irish Festival\, Lord Mayor of London’s St Patrick’s Festival at Trafalgar Square and the Royal Albert Hall\, where they performed the first ever BBC Proms céilí as part of the 2008 season and supported The Chieftains on their 50th Anniversary tour. They have been included on the ‘Ultimate Guide to Irish Folk’ double CD\, released by ARC Music in February 2014. TV and Radio appearances have included TG4’s ‘Hup’ and ‘Geantraí’\, BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’\, BBC Radio Oxford\, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta\, Clare FM and more. \n\nThe London Lasses are:\nKaren Ryan (fiddle\, mandola\, banjo\, whistle)\,\nElaine Conwell (fiddle)\,\nElma McElligott (flute\, saxophone\, whistle\, backing vocal)\,\nBrogan McAuliffe (concertina)\,\nBrona McVittie (vocal\, harp)\,\nwith Chris O’Malley (piano\, guitar) \nAs with all of their releases to date\, The London Lasses’ 5th album The One I Loved the Best (recorded with Chris O’Malley plus guests and released in 2015) received much critical acclaim: \n‘The One I Love the Best will vault these musicians into the spotlight once again with a renewed focus and vigor. As usual\, The London Lasses have brought a winner.’\nChicago Irish News \n‘It’s an invigorating blend\, to be sure\, and their already superbly infectious and spirited musicianship scores even higher on the excitement scale when augmented at various points by guest musicians’ FATEA \n‘One of the strengths of The London Lasses is their ability to vary the instrumental line–up\, and this is aided here by guests on button box\, flute and harp. Switching between fiddles\, flutes and free reeds\, and adding banjo and saxophone on a couple of tracks\, allows them to embrace several different styles of Irish music’ Irish Music Magazine \n‘The London Lasses have been producing good quality music from the London Irish scene for 15 years now\, and in many ways are synonymous with that scene. This is their fifth album and\, yet again\, they have produced just over an hour’s worth of Irish music and song they can be proud of.’ The Living Tradition \n\n\nFind out more about the band at:  \nwww.londonlasses.net\nwww.facebook.com/thelondonlasses \nwww.twitter.com/ReturntoCamden \nIMDL (Irish Music and Dance in London) \nOrganiser of The London Lasses and Chris O’Malley in concert Irish Music and Dance in London (IMDL) exists to promote traditional Irish arts in London.
