However things take an unexpected turn of events\, when Jane\, with whom he had an affair 18 odd years ago turns up to tell him that he has a child \, who has come to the hospital to try and find him. David’s attempts to keep this information from his wife\, whilst evading his offspring\, whilst at the same time deliver the Ponsenby Lecture\, results in all sort of mayhem.

DESCRIPTION:Time: 7:30pm\nPrice: £14 / £12 conc.\nSet in a dugout in March 1918 near St Quentin\, France\, this is an iconic first world war play written by a man who had himself experienced the horrors of that war.\nSet over the course of four days leading up to a massive German attack on the British trenches in March 1918\, Journey’s End charts the tension and claustrophobia as the new recruit to the company\, Lieutenant Raleigh\, discovers that Captain Stanhope\, his former childhood friend and hero\, has changed almost beyond recognition. \nOne of the most famous plays of the 20th century\, Journey’s End was written by R C Sherriff who himself had experienced the full horror’s of trench warfare as a 2nd Lieutenant for ten months from 1916 to 1917. This is why the dialogue in the play is so authentic as he ‘ merely had to write down what the people said at the time ‘.
