Kytes Theatre Group presents

The Wisdom of Eve

Kytes’ 40th year +1 show, delayed by 12 months, by kind permission of Josef Weinberger Limited, began life as a short story written in the 1940s, won the Best Picture Oscar in 1950, along with 5 other Oscars, starred Bette Davis, and spawned the stage play that was first performed in 1979, and was subsequently the basis for the hit musical Applause. More recently, the play was revived in London’s West End in 2019, with Gillian Anderson as Margo and Lily James as Eve.

In Kytes’ 40th year +1 show, Margo is played by Tori Till (The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and Piaf), and Eve by Romy Brooks (Arms and the Man and The Thrill of Love). Other cast members include founder Kytes members Josie Bruty and Patrick Stevens, and long time member Paul Sparrowham.

The play is a revealing “inside” story of the New York theatre world, told in terms of an unscrupulous ingenue’s rise to Broadway stardom, by lying, cheating and blackmail. Eve leaves the wreckage of her friends’ trust behind her, in what has been described as “a strong and gripping play”.
