Brentwood Theatre & Chicken and Frog Bookshop present…

William Shakespeare’s

Twelfth Night

or What You Will

This unique outdoor production of William Shakespeare’s brilliant Twelfth Night is part of GET INTO ARTS 2021, the show will take place on Crown Street in Brentwood and attendance is free – just turn up and enjoy!

Ready for an Adventure? Join Viola, Sebastian, Olvia, Duke Orisno, and a whole host of other characters in this whirlwind version of one of Shakespeare’s funniest plays.

Performed by just three actors, and with an entirely original musical score, this version streamlines the characters and story to make a faster paced text whilst still remaining true to Shakespeare’s words and story. Men play women, women play men, and people play women disguised as men being flirted with my men dressed as women…confused? You won’t be! Our goal is to make Shakespeare accessible to newcomers and fresh for those who know it well. With this in mind our show focuses on the comedy of Shakespeare and aims to inspire laughter and discussion through exciting twists with traditional roots.

This is a family friendly show that’s perfect for both children and adults alike.

The Night Before Christmas

The Night Before Christmas

An original magical family musical

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring…except for a child sneaking out of her bedroom to try and catch a glimpse of Santa. Little does she know the adventure that’s in store when she encounters Humbug, the friendly mouse of the house, and when Santa gets stuck in the chimney they’ll need to work together, with the help of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Rudolph, to save Christmas for everyone!

The Night Before Christmas is an original musical written, directed and performed by a professional creative team and produced by Brentwood Theatre. Adapted from the classic poem by Clement Clarke Moore.

Suitable for all ages

Approximate running time 50 mins

Original artwork by Blue Serif

The below video of a selection of songs from The Night Before Christmas was recorded last year after we were forced to cancel the show during pre-production and rehearsals due to COVID-19 restrictions:

Illustration Workshop with Anne-Marie Conway

Unicorn Girl Illustration Workshop with Anne-Marie Conway

This is a fun, interactive workshop that has children creating wonderful graffiti art – and discussing some of the issues that most of them will have experienced at some point (starting a new school, feeling left out, worrying about something happening in their family etc). The message of the workshop is positive; that everyone has obstacles they can overcome. It uses three of the book’s original black-and-white illustrations to explore Ariella’s journey from loneliness and uncertainty to confidence and inclusion.

About the book:
Unicorn Girl is a sensitive, heartfelt middle grade novel about a lonely girl, Ariella, and the friendship she builds with a lost unicorn, Albert. They are both outsiders. Ariella has moved to a new house and school – where she is being bullied – while at home, her parents are preoccupied with her baby brother, who has a life-threatening illness. Albert is also an outsider, because he has tumbled out of the magical world where he belongs. Over the course of the book, Ariella helps train him to jump the scary, high wall that will take him back to his home. As she trains him, she gains confidence that helps her break back into her own world.
